Picture this: BMX Cruisers Flickr group

Today I stumbled on a cool Flickr group called BMX Cruisers.

The “About” section has this description:

This group contains pictures of people having fun with BMX cruisers. The main focus is on the salad days of 26″ cruisers, but two four peeps are welcome too.

It’s a pretty cool representation of the different facets of cruiser riding. There’s a bit of everything in this Flickr group: from flatland, to street, to pool riding, even just bombing the streets.

You might recognize a few familiar faces on it too.

Like Trent Brocker above.

Or Joseph Moody below.

Good to see pics of those guys tearing things up.

Heck, here’s another pic of Trent…it’s been a while since we’ve had a flatland pic on here.

Stolen Bikes debuts Saint XLT at Interbike

Stolen Bikes got our attention last year when they introduced the Stolen Saint 24 at Interbike.

The Stolen Saint was a solid first effort:  modern freestyle geometry, tough components (for a mid-level bike) and a tri-moly frame (which is common at this price point).

For 2013, Stolen has upped the ante a bit with the Saint XLT. On display at this year’s Interbike tradeshow, the Saint XLT showed that Stolen might just be serious about this 24″ game.

Sharing the same geometry as last year’s Saint model, the Stolen gang have made this version’s frame and fork 100% cro-mo. And with a nod to the way that many people are running their bars today, Stolen has also outfitted the XLT with 8.25″ handlebars.

I believe the headset and bottom bracket have also been updated to new sealed versions as well (but don’t quote me on that).

Nice to see Stolen taking a great new 24″ option and making it even better!

Should be in stores in the next month or so. Available in Black with Chrome (as shown above) and Matte Copper with Silver.

Build the ultimate cruiser, win a Skyway 24

Porkchop BMX, Bullseye Cycle and VintageBMX.com are sponsoring a cruiser-only build off starting tomorrow, September 18.

The best part of this build off is (besides checking out all the awesome builds) is that Porkchop is giving away a fully built up Skyway 24 XL in a random drawing out of all the people that submit a completed bike.

Sounds pretty good to me.

Heck, I may build something myself!

PorkchopBMX.com, Bullseye Cycle & VintageBMX.com have come together to sponsor a BMX cruiser build off running from Sept 18th to Dec 9th, 2012.

Any year 24″, 26″ or 29″ BMX cruiser is allowed to enter and each member can enter up to 3 bikes (one of each size). It is free to join VintageBMX.com and free to enter the build off.

Bikes will be built from Sept 18th to Nov 17th and “before” pictures of at least the frame and fork must be submitted before Nov 17th. Completed bikes will be submitted from Nov 18th to Dec 2nd. Voting for the top 3 favorites will be held Dec 3rd to 9th – any Vintage BMX member can vote.

Prizes for 1st through 3rd (based on number of votes received) will win both cash and merchandise. Every completed bike entered will get one chance to win (by random drawing) a complete 2012 Skyway 24 XL built with Porkchop BMX and Bullseye Cycle parts. Anyone who enters a Skyway cruiser gets 2 chances to win the giveaway bike. There is approx. $4000 total in cash and prizes being given away for this build off!

Skyway frames out now…for a lucky few

Planet BMX/Colored Tuffs announced last week that the long-anticipated 24″ Skyway T/A frames were about to be shipped out.

This modern-day adaptation of a classic cruiser frame (only made in small quantities in the original incarnation for the company’s factory riders, not the general public) understandably sold out quickly.

Will another run of these frames be made?

Not sure.

What I am sure of is that I’m dying to see some of these bad boys built up (the chrome ones with black Tuffs and skinwall tires are my kryptonite).

Oh look…maybe the white frames are OK too.

Holmes turns 22

S&M just announced that the new Holmes Frame, 22″ Pitchfork and Revenge wheels are now available.

From the looks of the things a large group of people are ready to jump on these and roll twenty-two style.

Choosing a new bike just got a whole lot more interesting.

A piece of your action

Just when you start thinking, “Where’s a good action shot when you need one?”

Pat Joubert comes through with two great shots of him tearing things up on his Liquid.

Or this one by Pat’s friend Jeff.  Serious air time at the public Greenlake trails in Seattle.

So rad.

Buddy busts out on his new Liquid

Buddy from Austin (Texas) recently picked up on one of the last Liquid frames (word has it they’re sold out now) and he is already putting it to good use.

Taking advantage of it’s dirt-oriented geometry, Buddy is having a blast putting his new Liquid build through its paces at the many dirt spots Austin has to offer.

Rad Rides: not in Oprah’s book club

I recently picked up a super cool book called, Rad Rides: The Best BMX Bikes Of All Time (Intercity, Gavin Lucas & Stuart Robinson).

And while it will probably never be an Oprah Book Club Selection, I think this a book that you’ll still want to check out.

Tracking the evolution of BMX bikes from the 70s to the modern day, it’s cool reminder of how far we’ve come in terms of BMX technology, and also how in many ways, we have stayed more or less true to the original designs from back in the day.

There are also cool one-off bikes, like Woody Itson’s gold-plated Hutch Trick Star.

And in the “modern era”, some of Jim Bauer’s cool custom projects.

24″ BMX gets some love too.

Whether it’s an OG Patterson cruiser, a 2009 S&M 24″ 38 Special or an early SE Floval Flyer…Rad Rides has got that covered too.

Overall, I’m pretty impressed by this book.

Just thumbing through the pages, I find myself constantly stopping and poring over each cool ride.

If you have any roots at all in BMX, you gotta check this book out.
