Take the cruisers bowling

25 02 2011

Last night there was cruisers on my lawn

Take the cruisers bowling

Take them bowling

Take the cruisers bowling

Take them bowling

Some people say that skatepark bowls all look the same

look the same

There’s not a line that goes here that rhymes with anything

anything

Vodpod videos no longer available.

I had a dream last night but I forget what it was…

More teasers from S&M

22 02 2011

Just heard some more news on the upcoming S&M 24″ Dirt Bike.

Looks like they’re going with the 21.7″ top tube (although a longer version may come later) and 14.7″ rear end.

Bottom bracket height will be 13″.

Chrome will take you home

The first run of frames will be available in red, black and chrome(!) with retro Dirt Bike graphics.

Forks will be in black and chrome.

But wait, there’s more…

They’ve done some tweaking to their low-rise Slam Bars and have come up with a bar that works better with their new frame (6.75″ X 28″).

And finally, what I wasn’t expecting….but was super excited to hear…they’ll be doing a run of 24″ Pitchforks with 990 mounts!

This Cruiser needs a good home

22 02 2011

It’s not often that I promote a 75-pound cruiser, but in this case, I’m going to make an exception.

Dorit Hahn, from a dog rescue called Forte Animal Rescue, contacted me recently with a note about one of their dogs named Cruiser.

(With a name like that, how can you not love the guy?)

He’s an American Bulldog / Labrador Retriever Mix and looking for a good home.

I kind of envision him in a place that has a backyard pumptrack where he can bark encouragement from the sidelines as you take laps…but that’s just me…I think he’ll get a long just about anywhere.

So if you’re in the South LA area and need a special Cruiser to add to (and perhaps guard) your stable, get in touch with Forte Animal Rescue and ask about Cruiser.

Are you ready for some S&M next month?

18 02 2011

S&M Bikes just posted a new picture of the 2nd version of their prototype 24″ Dirt Bike. They’ve also let it drop that they would be available towards the end of next month.

I’m very interested to see what the final specs are on this bad boy…cause it looks like they’ve done some considerable tinkering and tweaking to the original prototype.

3 crazy cruiser crashes caught on video

17 02 2011

If you want the ultimate, you have to be willing to pay the ultimate price — Point Break

The fact is, no one rides for free.

Every ride has the potential for calamity…sometimes you end up paying the price, and crashing.

Here’s a look back at some of the craziest cruiser crashes caught on video (and a quick reminder to wear your gear)!

3. Mid-race flair

I bet this guy didn’t think he would be pulling a flair on this day…in full race leathers!

2. A killer snap

In racing, getting a killer snap is usually a compliment. In this case

1. Jose Yanez tribute during Cruiser main at UCI Worlds

Jose Yanez was the first guy to successfully pull flips on a BMX bike. He rocked clips on his pedals to make it happen. These days the only BMX riders using clips are racers. It’s only fitting then that the Junior Men’s Cruiser final at the UCI Worlds showcased a tribute to Yanez’s pioneering efforts. A stunning demonstation of flips in his honor.

Honorable mentions

Coming up a little short

Mike “Rooftop” Escamilla made a name for himself jumping off houses. A true contrarian, this fella decided to take the opposite route. Looks like he came up a little short.

Berm warfare

Fighting always seems to bring fans to their feet in hockey. Could it work in BMX?  Let’s find out.

Can a pumptrack save your marriage?

14 02 2011

A good relationship always allows for some give and take.

We do things for our significant others when sometimes we’d rather be doing something else.

Likewise, having a nice place to share is important too.

Unfortunately, the work involved to keep a nice place often has a way of interfering with the time we like to spend riding. This can create some tension, unless your spouse happens to be as bike-crazy as you are.

The answer?

A pumptrack.

But not just any pumptrack.

We’re talking a manicured, landscaped pumptrack like the one in the backyard of John and Maggie of the San Diego Mountain Bike Association, as featured on the ihatebikes site.

This yard is a thing of beauty. (Although that wall is crying out to be incorporated as a feature in the pump track.)

Here’s another shot:

So maybe you and your spouse can’t agree on the decor in your home…but with a yard like this, at least you’ll have a yard you can both enjoy (…and you’ll never have to be nagged to do yardwork again!).

Sunday Wave-C frames are here!

11 02 2011

Just got word that the first shipment of Sunday Wave-C frames has arrived.

It should begin shipping to bike shops and mail orders across the U.S. early next week.

So far only the black version of the frame is available (Vapor Blue will follow, delivery date to be determined).

The initial order is on the small side so if you want to be among the first to ride this frame, you should  probably get in touch with your local shop or favorite mail-order company as soon as you finish reading this sentence.

They’re going to go quick.

It's here...The Sunday Wave-C frame

There will also be matching handlebars and forks. I believe the Vapor Blue versions have arrived (minus the frame) and I will try to post a pic or two of them on the Cruiser Revolution Facebook page if I can get a hold of them.

Sunday Front Brake Fork update

Don’t shoot the messenger…production delays on the front brake forks caused them not to be part of this shipment.

Believe me, I think they (Sunday) are just as anxious as everyone here to try to get an exact date for when these will arrive.

Mongoose 24″ BMX prototype spotted

9 02 2011

An eagle-eyed reader tipped me off to this bit of interesting news.

Mongoose has a pic of a 24″ BMX prototype up on their Facebook page!

The caption reads:

Check out Moody from Solano Ave Cyclery throwing down on a prototype Mongoose 24″ BMX at the Clock Tower in San Francisco!

No word yet if it’s going to be a complete or frame-only.

Mongoose 24" BMX prototype in action

In either case, it’s good to see another company (especially one with roots, like Mongoose) stepping up and becoming part of the growing 24″ BMX scene.

And while you’re on Facebook…

Check out the new Cruiser Revolution Facebook page. It’s a great way to keep up with what’s going on with the blog, post pics of your ride and other such frivolity.

Haro Race LT 24: first look

7 02 2011

Doran Bradshaw, team manager for Morphine Industries, has been riding a (yet to be released) Haro Race LT 24 for a while now and a thread just went up on vintagebmx.com with a pic of  his bike.

This is a good-looking machine.

Haro has certainly stepped up their “race” game in recent years with great handling bikes and this 24 shows that they don’t plan on stopping in 2011.

Doran Bradshaw's Haro Race LT 24

Sharing many of the same features of the 20″ version but sized up (it has a 21.7″ top tube) this might just be one of the more popular bikes out on the track this year.

Looking forward to seeing how it rides.

Word has it that it will be released some time in the spring.

Hellcat loose in Las Vegas

4 02 2011

Thousands of tourists flock to Las Vegas every day in search of  fun and good times.

What many of them miss seeing, however, is the cool bike-friendly terrain ready to be sessioned just beyond the bright lights of the strip.

From skateparks, to dirt, to just cruising the strip…Vegas has something for any rider.

Vegas local, Mike Leonard is making the most of what Vegas has to offer on his Free Agent Hellcat 24.

Because sometimes you just have to be a local to know where the real fun is.
