Forget Dr. Phil, build a pumptrack!

6 09 2011

Back in February, we discussed Can a pumptrack save your marriage?

But what happens when your marriage is…how do I put this delicately?…on the rocks?

Well, if you’re like Jon Maglio and already have a simple pumptrack in your backyard, you get digging! Breaking out the shovel and getting his pumptrack super dialed with more flow and obstacles was Jon’s preferred form of therapy.

Just check out this video. Judging by the smile on his face at the end, this form of therapy was more effective than anything Dr. Phil could’ve recommended.

This Cruiser needs a good home

22 02 2011

It’s not often that I promote a 75-pound cruiser, but in this case, I’m going to make an exception.

Dorit Hahn, from a dog rescue called Forte Animal Rescue, contacted me recently with a note about one of their dogs named Cruiser.

(With a name like that, how can you not love the guy?)

He’s an American Bulldog / Labrador Retriever Mix and looking for a good home.

I kind of envision him in a place that has a backyard pumptrack where he can bark encouragement from the sidelines as you take laps…but that’s just me…I think he’ll get a long just about anywhere.

So if you’re in the South LA area and need a special Cruiser to add to (and perhaps guard) your stable, get in touch with Forte Animal Rescue and ask about Cruiser.

Can a pumptrack save your marriage?

14 02 2011

A good relationship always allows for some give and take.

We do things for our significant others when sometimes we’d rather be doing something else.

Likewise, having a nice place to share is important too.

Unfortunately, the work involved to keep a nice place often has a way of interfering with the time we like to spend riding. This can create some tension, unless your spouse happens to be as bike-crazy as you are.

The answer?

A pumptrack.

But not just any pumptrack.

We’re talking a manicured, landscaped pumptrack like the one in the backyard of John and Maggie of the San Diego Mountain Bike Association, as featured on the ihatebikes site.

This yard is a thing of beauty. (Although that wall is crying out to be incorporated as a feature in the pump track.)

Here’s another shot:

So maybe you and your spouse can’t agree on the decor in your home…but with a yard like this, at least you’ll have a yard you can both enjoy (…and you’ll never have to be nagged to do yardwork again!).

A backyard pumptrack revisited

7 05 2010

As you may remember, I was pretty stoked on Jason G’s backyard pumptrack when I first saw a video of it on vimeo. Well, it’s a new season and Jason has been putting in some time making it even better.

He’s got a regular Thursday night session going on (as you can see below) and he’s already planning on adding to it and changing things up. So far he’s the only cruiser rider in the group for the Thursday night session but I suspect that won’t be for long.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Yard work just got more interesting

Found this vid recently while poking around on vimeo.

It looks like Jason G has got the right idea when it comes to doing yard work.

Check out his sweet backyard pumptrack.
