S&M 24″ Dirt Bike frame now available!

9 03 2011

The wait is over.

The classic S&M Dirt Bike frame reborn as a bigger, bad ass 24″ version of its previous self is now available.

In red or black, it’s ready to attack…just about anything you can throw at it.

Check out the S&M Bikes site for all the details.

Bonus info: A chrome version (holla!) will be available in about two weeks or so.

Are you ready for some S&M next month?

18 02 2011

S&M Bikes just posted a new picture of the 2nd version of their prototype 24″ Dirt Bike. They’ve also let it drop that they would be available towards the end of next month.

I’m very interested to see what the final specs are on this bad boy…cause it looks like they’ve done some considerable tinkering and tweaking to the original prototype.

More inside dirt on the 24″ S&M Dirt Bike

25 01 2011

Jon Faure’s been busy testing the 24″ S&M Dirt Bike prototype out on the trails and, more recently, in Las Vegas at their bike-friendly parks.

Jon seems to be loving the bike and his comfort level with the bike really shows (just check the picture above for evidence).

He’s also just put up a post on plussizebmx.com with some updates on how the testing is going.

It looks like:

  • some tweaks are being made to the existing prototype (proto #2 is on the way),
  • new bars to go with the frame are being developed
  • Updated 24″ Pitchforks might be in the works.

Have to say, this looks very promising!

The right stickers make all the difference...

24″ Dirt Bike testing goes flat out

19 01 2011

Looks like S&M is going flat out with its 24″ Dirt Bike prototype testing.

That’s right.

S&M Bikes owner, Chris Moeller is taking a hands-on (and foot off) approach to get the 24″ Dirt Bike just right.

He’s bringing his years of experience to the table….

OK, enough with the puns.

I just wanted an excuse to run this pic of Moeller’s rad one-footed flattie on Jon Faure’s test bike.

The dirt on the new 24″ S&M Dirt Bike

22 12 2010

The S&M Dirt Bike is growing up.

Last week we learned that S&M was in the prototype stage in the development of the new 24″ version of the classic Dirt Bike.

We now have more dirt on the new frame, thanks to Jay at S&M.

The thinking behind the new Dirt Bike is that it will be a 24″ street/freestyle/all-around frame with a bit of retro style to it (it might even be offered in Chrome).

The geometry is similar to the Fit CR24, with a slightly lower bottom bracket.

Two protoypes are out for testing right now, a black one and red one. Final colors have yet to be decided.

The specs

Keep in mind this a prototype, so there is still some testing and tweaking to be done, and none of these specs are set in stone.

That being said, here’s what the current specs that are on the frames being tested:

  • 21.75” TT
  • 9.75” standover height
  • 74.5 headtube angle
  • 71 seat angle
  • 14.85” chain stay length (slammed)
  • 12.5” BB height

Other features

(Again, these are still subject to change)

  • Dirt Bike dropouts
  • Capped chain & seat stays
  • Mid BB
  • Engraved head tube with removable gyro tabs
  • 1.375 TT straight gauge .035 Supertherm
  • 1.5” butted DT Supertherm
  • 2.25″ tire clearance
  • .75” seat stays
  • .625” seat stay bridge
  • .875” chain stays
  • .75” chain stay bridge
  • Welded brake mounts
  • Built-in seat clamp

Works with either standard drive train or micro-drive.

What do you think?

There’s no release date yet for this puppy, but considering all the buzz that it’s generating, I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be picking one of these frames up when they become available.

What about you?

Now that you have a better idea of the specs and features, what are your thoughts on this frame?

S&M Dirt Bike grows up

11 12 2010

Holy Moeller!

S&M released a picture today (on their Facebook feed) of their new Dirt Bike cruiser.

And I have to say, it’s making me a little giddy…and super anxious to get the (ahem) dirt on the new 24, in terms of specs and geometry.

But along with my excitement, I also have a bunch of questions:

Is this a new and improved version of the Fit CR24 frame (RIP)?

Was the decision to make a 24 influenced by Rockabilly Jay’s Dirt Bike-inspired cruiser?

When, oh when, will this go into  production?

Rockabilly Jay’s S&M Dirt Bike cruiser

29 04 2010

Rockabilly Jay from West Coast Choppers recently sent in this great photo of his S&M Dirt Bike cruiser .

What a great combination of mid-school looks with modern parts and geometry! (That sticker on the forks is nice too.)

He says he’s been racing cruiser every week with a crew of five guys and having a blast doing it.

To see another one of Jay’s builds, check out this sweet custom SE Quadangle cruiser (featured last year on Cruiser Revolution).
