Don’t get me wrong, I still think BMX racing is cool (I’m a racer myself)…but back in the 80s, it seemed to have that little something extra. Which is a little funny when you think about how tracks, bikes and everything else has improved.
Maybe it’s the style of the racing itself.
Or maybe it’s clipless pedals.
According to 4-time ABA #1 Pro, “Pistol Pete” Loncarevich, both seem to be culprits.
If you’re ready to ditch your traditional cruiser bars for something a little taller, S&M has got you covered with some smaller versions of their classic Slam Bars.
What I find surprising, given WTP’s relatively long tenure in the 24″ game, is their lack of promotion. Year after year, WTP puts out great bikes with nary a web clip or cool riding shot to be seen.
Would it be so hard to film a clip of Chester Blacksmith cruising around the city — on a cruiser — for instance?
We The People, show us some love! Let’s see some web clips!
If you’re on Facebook and you’re interested in some (almost) daily 24″ news and BMX-related shenanigans, you should definitely check out (and ‘like’) the Cruiser Revolution Facebook page.
Red Division, my cruiser blog brother from another (Spanish) mother, is reporting that Keith Wilson from Dialed Bikes is sporting a pair of prototype Renthal bars with a bolt-on crossbar reminiscent of its motorcycle bars. (Keith placed 4th in 45+ cruiser at the 2010 World Cup. )
I have to wonder if there are flex and/or durability issues. It seems to work for them in the motorcycle world so I’m very interested to see how this type of handlebar fares in the bar-banging world of BMX racing.
I was all set to incorporate a Blue Monday reference into the title but it’s late in the day so I’ll spare you.
As mentioned in an earlier post about the Sunday Wave-C frame, Vapor blue is another color option that will be available in the future. From what I understand there will be both handlebars and forks to match the frame.
Here’s a sneak peek of what the color will look like (sorry, no pic of the frame yet).
Looks pretty fresh.
No confirmed date yet on when these will be available. Let’s just say “coming soon.”
