A 24″ Chase Hawk tire on the horizon?

28 01 2015

I’ve seen talk of this in a couple of places (the otxdesign instagram page and BMX Museum) but so far no official word.

Is a 24″ version of Odyssey’s Chase Hawk tire in the pipeline?

If the word on the street is to be believed, it looks like it’s going to happen. In the mean time, I guess we’ll have to sit tight until we hear about a release date.

Pretty stoked to see this added into the assortment of high-end tires available for new school 24s.

First look: Sunday Model C3 frame

21 01 2015

We first spotted this frame back in September at Interbike amongst the other new stuff on display from Sunday.

At the time, this frame was being promoted as a full cro-mo version of the frame on the Model C complete, at a more affordable pricepoint  than the Wave-C frame.

Sunday Model C3This frame is exactly those things. Gone are the wave tubing and wishbone back end of the Wave-C but what remains is a frame that shares the same geo of that iconic frame but is much more accessible to the masses.

new sunday backendTrent Brocker has built one of these frames up and it looks pretty dialed!

Sunday Model C3 buildI think we’ll start seeing more of these frames built up very soon!

Tested: Stolen Joint tires

17 12 2014

When I heard that Buddy Sardenga was getting a set of 26″ Stolen Joint tires for his Beelzebike 20 666, I knew it would be a good opportunity to hear more about the tires that are popping up on more and more cruiser builds.

Judging by this pic alone, they are definitely winning in the looks department.

Buddy tests Stolen Joint 26 tires

But how do they perform?

According to Buddy,

…they have amazing grip on the concrete and you can lay it down as low as you want on turns. Very fast and quiet, especially with a free coaster.

In the dirt?

What really blew me away was the way they handled dirt jumps and cornering at high speed in berms. Once again, very fast and they grip like they had knobs, great all around design.

Comparing the Joint tires to what he ran before, Buddy said:

I was running Halo Twin Rails before these tires and I would say the Stolen’s are right up there with those.

(Editors note: I took a lap  on Buddy’s bike at Walnut Creek last year when it had Halos on it…and whoa, were they super grippy…if these tires are in the same league…that’s saying a lot.)

It appears the Stolen Joint tires are the real deal…looks and performance in one package.

Check out Buddy shreddin’ Tejano’s trails in Pflugerville, Texas for more proof that these tires live up to the hype. (Pic by Octavio Artuno)

A 29″ FBM cruiser…who would’ve thunk it?

10 12 2014

A little over a week ago we peeped some 24″ custom-built goodness from FBM.

To further show that FBM is on the top of its custom bike game, I give you this…one truly sweet-looking custom built 29″ cruiser from FBM.

The owner, MSERNO75, a BMX Museum member, started a thread over on the Museum showcasing his new ride…where I happened upon it.

In the thread, he explains how he has had many SE Big Rippers in the past and loved the way they rode. He’s also had a number of FBM 20 inchs, and was a big fan of their build quality, as well as the fact that they were American-made.

Deciding to meld the best of the two worlds, he contacted FBM and had them build a custom frame to his specs (similar to the Big Ripper) along with a custom set of 29″ CB4K’S forks.

Looks hella dialed in Trans Blue…perfect for long rides and hitting the odd curb cut or two.

Shred the snow on a 24

9 12 2014

This might be just the thing as we head into the deep freeze of winter.

Drifter Snowbikes is expanding their product line for 2015 to include a 24″ version of their snowbike kit.

Here’s a pic of the first kit put together for team rider Shawn Lee.

Looks pretty trick.

If you live in an area that gets a lot of snow…this could be your key to some good times this winter.

Stricker steps up to a 22″…no joshin’

2 12 2014

I had heard stories/rumours previously of Matt Beringer experimenting with a 22 but never could seem to find any evidence of it happening.

Well, it looks like another big name in the S&M alumni is taking the plunge…and this time S&M Bikes themselves is promoting the fact.

JOSH STRICKER

The man, the myth, the legend…Josh Stricker is building himself up a fresh 22″ ATF whip.

Stricker22

Could this be the start of more big-name riders making the switch to bigger wheels?

Who’s to say at this point?

All I can say is I can’t wait to see video of Stricker tearing shit up on this thing.

FBM checks in with custom cruiser rider

27 11 2014

FBM may not be a name synonymous with cruisers but every once in a while they’ll surprise us with a custom cruiser build.

Yesterday, they featured a custom build (on their site) that they did for Creson Dude and touted their custom frame capabilities.

creson bike

Included in the writeup are pictures of Creson shredding pools, trails…you name it.

creson whip

creson bowl

What might be even more interesting is…this might be the same custom frame & fork that we featured here on Cruiser Revolution back in 2009. (It does look kinda rusty in the more current pics…) If it is that same frame…well, then you know that these frames will stand up to years of abuse.

Nice going FBM.

(…and Creson, not too shabby in the style department!)

Get a grip: A’ME brings back the Unitron

31 10 2014

A’ME grips is bringing back one of the most iconic grips from the ’80s, the Unitron.

Word on the street is that the mold was thought to be lost but was recently found again.

I’m not sure if that part is completely true but I also don’t really care either…I’m just stoked to see that this grip is going to be available again!

ame_dec84

A’ME is also going to put a little indicator (on the flange, I believe) to distinguish this new version from the vintage versions…which I’m sure produced a sigh of relief on the part of old school parts collectors.

The plan is to do a limited run in a variety of colors in the $30 (US) price range.

I’ve gotta see if I can get my hands on a pair of these.

Flatland on the 24″ Quadangle Freestyle

8 10 2014

SE has been on a bit of tear recently, posting pics of the new 24″ Quadangle Freestyle.

You may recall that this old school-looking, new school-riding 24 caught our attention back in June when a sneak peek of the bike turned our heads.

Now a steady stream of photos in SE’s social media accounts have shown that this cruiser is no carpet queen.

Whether it’s Dan Hubbard busting out a classic cherrypicker (with a rider in a 2-Hip shirt making the perfect backdrop)

Dan Hubbard Cherrypicker SE Quadangle Freestyle 24

or @rrdblocks getting fresh with another flatland move

@rrdblocks SE Quadangle Freestyle 24

It looks like this bike has some chops.

Word on the street is that SE has also dropped off a Quadangle Freestyle off with the BMX Plus folks for a bike test.

SE Quadangle Freestyle 24Looking forward to seeing what they have to say about this new project from SE (not to mention it will also be some well-deserved coverage for the 24″ scene in a mainstream pub).
