Whip out Wednesday?

4 05 2016

Granted #whipitwednesday is probably always going to be front and center on Wednesdays…but taking another peek at this clip (from a few years back) I think we could make the case for #whipoutwednesday.

Can’t get over this over-crankslide

12 04 2016

Hard to believe this clip was put out way back in ’09.

I’m still pretty stoked on it though.

Sutty’s custom Invictus Bikes cruiser

29 03 2016

UK rider, Roy “Sutty” Sutton spotted our recent post on Curtis Bikes’ unconventional cruiser and decided to drop us a line about another custom frame builder in the UK that will “build anything you want”…Invictus Bikes.

Invictus just finished his custom 24″ dirt/park/race cruiser (it’s just going to paint) and he sent along some early photos to share the stoke.

invctus front(1)

It features the following specs:
  • 69 degree head tube
  • 72 degree seat tube
  • 23″ top tube
  • 14″ rear stay
  • 11.2″ bottom bracket height
  • 135mm dropouts to run a disc brake

invictus rear

Sutty’s going to provide an update when it’s painted and ready to go. The frame comes in at a tidy 4 pounds (if that sort of thing matters to you).

invictus sideLooking forward to seeing this rig all built up!

Sutty says his M.O. these days is “pump tracks/dirt/park and the occasional race”…so maybe some action shots too?

MegaRamp madness with Trent Brocker

21 03 2016

Five years ago, 40-something Jon Faure blew minds when he took on the Woodward West MegaRamp on his 24″ cruiser.

The years have gone by and we’ve often wondered who would be the next 24″ rider to brave the wooden beast.

Turns out it would be none other than “Chief Rocka” Trent Brocker.

He did  at the OSBMXR event this past weekend.

Trent got the motivation from the Condor himself, Mat Hoffman.

And, just to keep things interesting…Trent did it brakeless.

Wow.

TrentBMegaRampThat’s some business right there.

TrentBMM2Here’s a closeup shot of Trent right up in the letters at the top of the ramp (the rider in white is his good friend Scott Yowell…who was no slouch on the ramp this day either).

Hot damn, I’m pretty stoked on this.

Finally, since we’re on the subject anyway…check out this POV vid that Mat Hoffman posted of his view during his run on the MegaRamp.

(It might take a second to load)

Holy Cow….

Saddle up to the bar (endo)

3 03 2016

Bar endos are a bit of a rarity in the freestyle world these days….and that’s doubly true in the case of 24″ riders.

That being said, Trent Brocker has been known to throw one down…and his bar endo picture on the Golden Gate Bridge still ranks as one of my favorite riding shots.

But other than Trent, I don’t see many riders giving the bar endo any love.

So, on the off chance I spot an old dog pulling out one of these (rare) old tricks, I’m always impressed.

Today, I stumbled across another rider doing one.

His name is Craig Stang.

The bar endo happens at the 0:52 mark of this YouTube video,

filmed on the day of [his] 40th rotation around the sun [at] Arlington Skatepark, VA [in 2010].

It looks he had a good session going on that day.

Check it.

Monday minutes

29 02 2016

A few notables popped up over the weekend…things not big enough for a full-blown post but items definitely worth taking note of…

First off…Tribute Bikes released a picture of their new prototype cruiser all built up.

Tribute prototype v2 built upLooks pretty sweet!

I’m so looking forward to seeing the final version of this bad boy.

The next item…not exactly new (it’s from January originally) but new to me at least…is an article on RedBull.com.

It popped up in my Facebook feed over the weekend and it seems like the perfect thing to peruse in advance of the spring digging season: How to build your own backyard pumptrack.

With some deece pics from legendary BMX phototog, Jared Souney, it’s well worth your attention.

Have a gander at that article, re-read the CR post, A primer on how to build a pumptrack and you’ll be tearing up the backyard garden and installing berms and rollers in no time.

Closer to Cruiser Revolution HQ…an announcement came out over the weekend that a warehouse in west Toronto is going to be converted into a “House of Vans” from March 16 to April 2.

houseofvans

The space will feature a skatepark, art gallery and musical performances (Dinosaur Jr. is said to be one). No word on whether or not bikes are allowed but pretty cool news in any event. I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to score some cool kicks there too.

Finally, we’re less than a week out from the Toronto Bicycle Show.

Which means the best part of the annual bike show  is also happening…the X-Jam.

It’s always a raucous affair. A crowd full of crazy Canadians with cabin fever and an international cast of riders going off.

I’m looking forward to catching up with old friends and checking out some awesome riding.

I’m also looking forward to seeing Drew B. dropping in from the ceiling again.

Sneak Peek: Another Tribute Bikes teaser

11 02 2016

We got the first photo tease of the new Tribute Bikes Prototype cruiser back in April.

They’ve been busy working on and testing the Prototype since then.

Today, Tribute released photos of the latest iteration of their new prototype frame.

Tribute prototype frame fork stemFor now, colors choices are going to be raw or black.

Tribute prototype headtubeHead tube drilled for a Gyro.

Tribute prototype brake staysRemovable brake mounts.

Tribute prototype seat tubeClean welds.

Tribute prototype frames stemsLooks pretty dialed.

Did I mention that the front triangle is entirely Reynolds tubing?

No?

It is.

Nice.

The specs:

  • 74 degree head tube
  • 71 seat tube angle
  • 21.98″ top tube
  • 13″ bottom bracket
  • 14 mm dropouts
  • Removable brake mounts

The back end is designed to fit 2.25-2.30 tire.

And depending on the gearing you choose, you’re looking at a chain stay length of 14 to 14.125″. ( She’s got a tight rear end.)

I’m pretty stoked on this.

Can’t wait to see the final version.

Chance Garrison blitzes park on a 24″

10 02 2016

Chance Garrison absolutely shreds the park in this edit (originally posted in 2014).

The best part?

The majority of the time he’s riding a Sunday Wave C!

Chance Garrison park blitz Sunday Wave C

He seems pretty hyped on 24″ riding too.

In the video description, he writes:

New park mix with lots of Sunday Model C riding! If you’ve never ridden one of the 24″ beasts you should try to get your hands on one!

Sounds like Chance is down with the big wheels!

Getting in the game with Lukas Spies

2 02 2016

Excuses are like…well, you know the expression…everyone’s got one.

You hear them from people on the fence about getting into — or back into — riding.

“I’m too old”

“It’s too dangerous”

“I can’t afford it”

“I’m out of shape”

You’ve heard them all before.

I’m going to go out on a limb here (not really) and say that Lukas Spies has never even whispered one of these excuses.

In this video, Lukas, who just happens to be an above-the-knee amputee, orders himself an entry-level DK (sadly, a model no longer available) to show how anybody can “get in the game.”

He then goes on to demonstrate how this is done…with just a few bucks, some elbow grease and the willingness to go for it in the local skatepark.

If Lukas Spies can find a way to overcome the excuses to get in the game…what’s holding you back?

Experience Europe’s great indoors

12 01 2016

It seems fitting that on the day my city gets its first major snowfall of the season…I learn of a new indoor bike park!

Following in the footsteps of other parks (Rays MTB, Joyride 150, Cranx and others) this particular park takes the concept outside of North America.

Wood15 is the first indoor bike park of this type in Europe.

Wood15c

Located in Sittard-Geleen, Netherlands (in an old Phillips television factory), it offers terrain and features suited for beginners and experts alike. Of course, it’s also a welcome escape if Mother Nature turns nasty.

The park also has a nice-looking coffee bar called “Drinkplaats” inside to keep you caffeinated/hydrated during your session.

Drinkplaats

It definitely looks like a pretty cool place…and kinda makes me want to visit the Netherlands!

Check it out.
