Jim C takes on Woodward

27 05 2022

Jim Cielencki recently visited Woodward…and the result was a whole pile of new footage of him shredding on his 24.

What’s even cooler, is that Jim revisited some tricks that he hasn’t done in a while.

Everything from crankslides, flips, wallrides…and even some flair attempts! Jim hasn’t done flairs for something like ten years, so it’s cool to see him going for them again.

All in all, a solid weekend of shredding.

I’m psyched to see more Jim C 24″ footy as the summer progresses.

Sixteen Candles

22 03 2017

I got to celebrate another spin around the sun this past weekend.

Yes, it was my birthday.

And while there were more than sixteen candles on the cake, I still managed to have some fun in my now rapidly advancing years.

It was an action-packed weekend filled with indie wrestling, the Trainspotting sequel, a session at Joyride 150 and a Raptors/Pacers basketball game.

The icing on the proverbial cake, however, was seeing a Facebook picture of Trent Brocker sporting a Cruiser Revolution t-shirt atop the MegaRamp at Woodward West.

(Trent was attending the Old School BMX Reunion and getting a few laps in.)

Trent even got a little dirt on it to break it in.

Nice!

As you can see, the space-age fabric (100% cotton) the shirt can take some abuse and is (like Trent) no worse for wear.

Finally, I was hoping to wrap up this meandering post with riding shots but alas I was remiss in pulling out my phone while riding at Joyride.

Thankfully, Bunky Dunn also recently celebrated a birthday and commemorated the day by flinging himself down a couple rails.

Please enjoy in lieu of my absent riding photos.

Cheers…and go see Trainspotting 2 if you haven’t seen it…good flick!

MegaRamp madness with Trent Brocker

21 03 2016

Five years ago, 40-something Jon Faure blew minds when he took on the Woodward West MegaRamp on his 24″ cruiser.

The years have gone by and we’ve often wondered who would be the next 24″ rider to brave the wooden beast.

Turns out it would be none other than “Chief Rocka” Trent Brocker.

He did  at the OSBMXR event this past weekend.

Trent got the motivation from the Condor himself, Mat Hoffman.

And, just to keep things interesting…Trent did it brakeless.

Wow.

TrentBMegaRampThat’s some business right there.

TrentBMM2Here’s a closeup shot of Trent right up in the letters at the top of the ramp (the rider in white is his good friend Scott Yowell…who was no slouch on the ramp this day either).

Hot damn, I’m pretty stoked on this.

Finally, since we’re on the subject anyway…check out this POV vid that Mat Hoffman posted of his view during his run on the MegaRamp.

(It might take a second to load)

Holy Cow….

Old School BMX Reunion Recap

26 04 2013

For the past 5 years, Steve Swope has been an hosting an event called the Old School BMX Reunion at Woodward West.

It’s basically a chance for old school BMX heroes and old regular BMX Joes to get together and celebrate BMX.  It went down last week and it looks like it was a super fun time.

Trent Brocker has been attending for a while now and he (along with his friend, Dennis Dowling) managed to snap a few pics from the weekend.

Check ’em out.

To get a sense of what this weekend is all about, check out DionRidesBikes to get the perspective from someone attending the event for the first time. (Let’s just say, I think Dion is going to be attending every year from now on.)

MegaRamp madness with Jon Faure

13 03 2012

Jon Faure boldly goes where no 40-something 24″ bike rider has gone before…the Woodward West MegaRamp!

It’s awesome to see Jon push his limits…although I still cringe every time I watch the crash section.

Jon Faure still firing at age 47

3 08 2011

In a time when many 47-year olds are content to ride nothing more than their couch or a golf cart, Jon Faure (who just turned 47 today) continues to push his limits.

Recently taking on Woodward West’s Mega Ramp and walking away smiling, you know this self-professed Old Guy Who Rides still has that fire inside for riding.

Jon Faure, 47 years young

Jon seems to embody the philosophy that I think most of share, regardless of what side of 47 we’re on, when it comes to riding:

We may be old enough to know better, but still young enough to do it anyway (mostly ’cause it’s so damn fun!)

Happy birthday Jon, looking forward to seeing more radness in the future!

Like father, like son

13 05 2010

…or may be it’s the other way around?

Jon Faure’s been working on a video featuring him riding with his son and how getting a 24 (his Sunday Model-C) helped make it all possible.

Should be a great video. After all, you don’t see too many father-son trains flowing through Woodward West…unless the Faures are in the house that is.

Clearly Jon is raising his son right, just check out his table manners.

Like son, like father?

Jon shows the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

BMX superheroes at Woodward West

17 03 2010

Looks like Steve Swope is once again gathering the Superfriends (Old school BMX stars) at the Justice League (Woodward West)  to fight the forces of evil (for the Old School BMX Reunion).

The invite list features a “who’s who” of 80s BMX legends. Just check out the list of invitees for an instant Freestylin’ magazine flashback. Should be an awesome weekend…I’m really looking forward to checking out the photos and video from the event.

Former Plywood Hood, Brett Downs was there last year and clicked this sweet turndown on his Model-C to commemorate things.

Turndowns are just timeless, aren’t they?

It’s all going down Friday, April 2 – Sunday, April 4. Check out Kickstand BMX for all the details.

For more pictures from last year’s event, check out b dubbs photostream on flickr.

For the theme music I imagine them playing when they enter the building, click here.

Jon Faure takes on Woodward West

23 12 2009

Jon Faure just sent an email with some great riding pics he took recently at Woodward West. You may remember Jon from a post awhile back called Is this going to be you at 45? or his interview on the Sunday bikes site.

Jon is still tearing it up on his Sunday Model-C and hopes to inspire a few more “older” riders to take the plunge and start riding a modern 24″ bike. Here’s what Jon had to say:

At 45 years old, this bike has me doing things I would never thought possible at my age. Especially since I really only started riding 6 or 7 years ago. More old guys need to take advantage of these new 24″ bikes. It makes riding so much easier and more fun!

Can’t argue with that!

Check out these great pictures
