Pitch perfect: S&M 24″ Pitchforks

27 05 2011

It’s fitting that a bike company that makes such sweet bike parts would end up with a picture of its forks looking like candy.

Pad sets: poised for a comeback?

25 05 2011

With so many old school bmx setups making comebacks these days–things like seat & seat post combos or front brakes–I thought I would make the case for something near and dear to my heart.

The pad set.

And if not the complete pad set…

At least the cross bar pad.

I started running one a while back after a session at my local pump track.

There was a downed tree in a particular section and I had to duck every time I went under it. Every time I ducked my grill was super close to the cross bar. I soon realized a hockey player smile was in my future if I ever happened to slip a pedal and come into contact with a cross bar.

After the session I dug through some old BMX parts and found an old cross bar pad. It was pretty basic but it did the job. I’ve since upgraded to something more stylish, which you can see below.

Cross bar pads are hot! Just look at the flames on this one...

I’m not sure exactly how much protection it actually does offer but a little is better than nothing…dental work can be expensive.

And for those of you that chipping or knocking out a tooth on a cross bar is no big deal…cross-bars can get you in other ways too…just check out this Chester Blacksmith clip.

Ouch!

Empire state of mind

15 04 2011

Are all mail-order BMX companies the same?

I was beginning to think so.

Sure, the company names change but in the end they all start to seem kind of similar.

That’s why I was pleasantly surprised when I checked out Empire BMX‘s site.

I was chuckling to myself the whole time I was searching for parts for my new Sunday Wave-C build.  With the funny write-ups and inside BMX references, like the Paul Buchanan mention in the Canadian shipping information, this is no ordinary mail-order site.

When I emailed a couple of questions, Tom (from Empire) was always quick with a response.  The whole vibe seems to be that they don’t take themselves too seriously but they are serious about their business.

They are also well stocked on 24″ stuff: Odyssey 24″ Hazard Lites, Sunday Wave-C, S&M 24″ Dirt Bike and 38 Special frames, just to name a few things.

In the end, I found what I needed and at a great price.

You should definitely check ’em out.

The sons of Slam

5 04 2011

If you’re ready to ditch your traditional cruiser bars for something a little taller,  S&M has got you covered with some smaller versions of their classic Slam Bars.

I like to call them the sons of Slam.

There’s a 7.25″ rise version that’s 28″ wide….right in the neighborhood of the Sunday 24umph bar, dimension-wise.

Another option is the Small Slam: 7.5″ rise X 26.25″ wide…perfect if you want a smidge more height and slightly narrower bars.

Erik Dabrowski is rocking Small Slams on his new 24" Dirt Bike build .

And, if you’re especially finicky about bars,  you can always check out S&M’s new custom handlebar program.

(For a pic of Erik D’s complete Dirt Bike build, visit the Cruiser Revolution Facebook page…it’s a beauty!)

Not just a pretty face

25 03 2011

If you’re on Facebook and you’re interested in some (almost) daily 24″ news and BMX-related shenanigans, you should definitely check out (and ‘like’) the Cruiser Revolution Facebook page.

In addition to links to current posts, you’ll also find reader bike photos (don’t forget to post your own), cool videos, and other assorted fun stuff.

It’s just another way to get your fix of 24″ BMX news and information.

24″ Pitchforks with 990 mounts are here!

22 03 2011

Just got word that S&M now has 24″ Pitchforks available (in stock) in black, red and white….with and without 990 mounts.

Chrome is expected in a week or so.

A new 24″ Race Fork with tapered legs is also now in stock.

You’re not reading this anymore now, are you? At this point, you’re probably just looking at the picture.

But who can blame you? She’s a beauty.

Contact S&M for all the details.

Take a chrome 24″ Dirt Bike home

17 03 2011

In case you missed it on the S&M Bikes’ Facebook feed…the 24″ Dirt Bike frames are now available in chrome!

Maybe I’m just an old school fool but I can’t help but feel my heart go all a flutter when I look at that nice shiny chrome.

What a sweet looking frame.

(It also looks like it’s going to be a limited run…so if you’re interested, get it while the gettin’s good.)

S&M 24″ Dirt Bike frame now available!

9 03 2011

The wait is over.

The classic S&M Dirt Bike frame reborn as a bigger, bad ass 24″ version of its previous self is now available.

In red or black, it’s ready to attack…just about anything you can throw at it.

Check out the S&M Bikes site for all the details.

Bonus info: A chrome version (holla!) will be available in about two weeks or so.

Sneak peek: blue Wave-C forks

8 03 2011

I was all set to incorporate a Blue Monday reference into the title but it’s late in the day so I’ll spare you.

As mentioned in an earlier post about the Sunday Wave-C frame, Vapor blue is another color option that will be available in the future. From what I understand there will be both handlebars and forks to match the frame.

Here’s a sneak peek of what the color will look like (sorry, no pic of the frame yet).

Looks pretty fresh.

No confirmed date yet on when these will be available. Let’s just say “coming soon.”

A little trails action from no inch rules

4 03 2011

Way back in September, I posted up some rad riding shots of Ivan from the blog, no inch rules.

He’s got some video posted too.

Not too shabby.
