Riding in Ottawa is about to get Epic

23 01 2015

If there was ever a city in need of a good indoor bike park it would be Ottawa.  The capital of Canada, Ottawa is the  home of often brutally cold winters. Folks, it gets cold as balls in Ottawa.

Thankfully, some forward thinking folks have put a plan in place to deal with this. The Epic Indoor Bike Park is a 53,000 square foot facility that will feature pump tracks, advanced jumps, ramps and a bunch of other good stuff to keep a rider occupied.  Super-tech rider Steve Moxley is even helping out with design and hammer swinging…so you know someone is keeping an eye out for the details.

Epic Indoor Bike Park jump roomBased on all the sneak peeks popping up, this place looks like it is going to be a lot of fun.

I expect to see a very long lineup of folks trying to get in when it opens on its yet-to-announced opening day in February.

Until then, check out this promo video that was released earlier this week.

(For more background on the park, check out this recent article in Mountain Life magazine.)

First look: Sunday Model C3 frame

21 01 2015

We first spotted this frame back in September at Interbike amongst the other new stuff on display from Sunday.

At the time, this frame was being promoted as a full cro-mo version of the frame on the Model C complete, at a more affordable pricepoint  than the Wave-C frame.

Sunday Model C3This frame is exactly those things. Gone are the wave tubing and wishbone back end of the Wave-C but what remains is a frame that shares the same geo of that iconic frame but is much more accessible to the masses.

new sunday backendTrent Brocker has built one of these frames up and it looks pretty dialed!

Sunday Model C3 buildI think we’ll start seeing more of these frames built up very soon!

Flatland Flashback…TwoFourFlat Re:Cap

9 01 2015

They say that all good things must come to an end.

Well, it looks like TwoFourFlat 6 (which dropped in December) was the end in the impressive series of big wheel flatland edits from Joe Cicman and Danny Sarkin.

TwoFourFlat6 Joe CicmanHere’s a lookback at some of the highlights leading up to the final installment.

So much good stuff in here.

Back in the saddle

7 01 2015

It’s been a spell but I hope you have had a great holiday season and are ready to dive into 2015.

I just got back from a trip to Argentina…and while it wasn’t a biking-related trip (I only saw one person riding when we were in the capital) I was struck by how many great street setups/spots were in Buenos Aires.

I kept thinking, “If only I had my bike with me…”  So much shreddable terrain!

As it turns out a bunch of Nike-sponsored riders (Chad Kerley, Dennis Enarson, Garrett Reynolds, Nigel Sylvester and Kriss Kyle) hit BA earlier in 2014.

They had their bikes with them of course.

Check out this edit and get a taste of all the great street setups Buenos Aires has to offer.

Watch for a return to our regular CR programming in the next few days.

Tested: Stolen Joint tires

17 12 2014

When I heard that Buddy Sardenga was getting a set of 26″ Stolen Joint tires for his Beelzebike 20 666, I knew it would be a good opportunity to hear more about the tires that are popping up on more and more cruiser builds.

Judging by this pic alone, they are definitely winning in the looks department.

Buddy tests Stolen Joint 26 tires

But how do they perform?

According to Buddy,

…they have amazing grip on the concrete and you can lay it down as low as you want on turns. Very fast and quiet, especially with a free coaster.

In the dirt?

What really blew me away was the way they handled dirt jumps and cornering at high speed in berms. Once again, very fast and they grip like they had knobs, great all around design.

Comparing the Joint tires to what he ran before, Buddy said:

I was running Halo Twin Rails before these tires and I would say the Stolen’s are right up there with those.

(Editors note: I took a lap  on Buddy’s bike at Walnut Creek last year when it had Halos on it…and whoa, were they super grippy…if these tires are in the same league…that’s saying a lot.)

It appears the Stolen Joint tires are the real deal…looks and performance in one package.

Check out Buddy shreddin’ Tejano’s trails in Pflugerville, Texas for more proof that these tires live up to the hype. (Pic by Octavio Artuno)

TwoFourFlat 6 drops on TwoFourTuesday

16 12 2014

I think every #TwoFourTuesday is special but when Joe Cicman drops another installment of TwoFourFlat it is even more so!

Always stoked to see this type of 24″ flatland wizardry.

So much radness.

A 29″ FBM cruiser…who would’ve thunk it?

10 12 2014

A little over a week ago we peeped some 24″ custom-built goodness from FBM.

To further show that FBM is on the top of its custom bike game, I give you this…one truly sweet-looking custom built 29″ cruiser from FBM.

The owner, MSERNO75, a BMX Museum member, started a thread over on the Museum showcasing his new ride…where I happened upon it.

In the thread, he explains how he has had many SE Big Rippers in the past and loved the way they rode. He’s also had a number of FBM 20 inchs, and was a big fan of their build quality, as well as the fact that they were American-made.

Deciding to meld the best of the two worlds, he contacted FBM and had them build a custom frame to his specs (similar to the Big Ripper) along with a custom set of 29″ CB4K’S forks.

Looks hella dialed in Trans Blue…perfect for long rides and hitting the odd curb cut or two.

Shred the snow on a 24

9 12 2014

This might be just the thing as we head into the deep freeze of winter.

Drifter Snowbikes is expanding their product line for 2015 to include a 24″ version of their snowbike kit.

Here’s a pic of the first kit put together for team rider Shawn Lee.

drifter snowbike 24

Looks pretty trick.

If you live in an area that gets a lot of snow…this could be your key to some good times this winter.
