Clip du jour: Cale Avery Schindler

27 03 2014

Clip du jour.  Clip of the day.

Cale Avery Schindler comes through with a great edit that sees him shredding everything in site.

Whether it’s street, the skatepark, a race track, dirt jumps…you name it…no terrain is safe is from Cale’s unique brand of radness.

Filmed and edited by Pdog (who’s no slouch in the riding/edit department either) this video should get you stoked to ride, for sure.

Nice job Cale.

(I thought for sure he was going to slip off this pipe at 1:05 in the edit)

Tomfoolery from Taj: Fairdale R&D

25 03 2014

It’s not often the bike industry gives away its secrets so freely, but Fairdale Bikes head honcho, Taj Mihelich is pulling back the covers for an in-depth look into the research and development of Fairdale’s line of bikes.*

Joined by fellow R&D test rider (and flatland legend) Leif Valin, Taj highlights how they test both their  prototypes and current products. Even the 26″ Taj cruiser makes an appearance!

If this video doesn’t get you smiling, I don’t know what will.

Deep thoughts

21 03 2014

a) Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself then providence moves too. William Hutchison Murray

b) Leap and the net will appear John Burroughs

c) Hold my beer Unknown

Which inspirational thought (a,b, or c) do you think was going through this guy’s head before he attempted this?

Texas-style Thursday throwback

6 03 2014

I don’t know if this qualifies for a “Throwback Thursday” post but I’m just going to roll with it.

About this time last year, I was planning a trip to Austin, TX .

I ended up having an great time.

One of the highlights of that trip was getting to ride with Buddy Sardenga at Walnut Creek (and having a few PBRs at the bar afterward).

This 2012 picture of Buddy shredding the Allied Compound (that I found over at BikeMojo)  brought back some great memories of that trip.

Good times.

Thanks for showing me around Buddy.

Toronto BMX Jam delivers

4 03 2014

While this isn’t cruiser news, I have to share the Justen Soule-filmed highlights video from the Toronto BMX Jam.

The Toronto BMX Jam is one of my favorite events of the year and the 2014 did not disappoint. The jam not only showcases some awesome riding, it’s a great opportunity for the BMX community to get together and have a good time.

But seriously, check out the bangers in this clip…especially the one at the end.  Wow.

Spring Brake Ride Las Vegas

7 02 2014

Like something out of the cult movie, The Warriors, two of America’s biggest BMX “gangs” are getting together this April for what promises to be an epic ride.

The L.A.-based 4130 Subway Series crew are making their way up to Las Vegas to meet up with their brothers in pedal arms, The 4130 Sin Series crew.

It all goes down last weekend of April and the Las Vegas Strip is going to be chock-a-block in BMXers.

Check out this video of the first time the Subway Series made their way up to Vegas in 2011. I was lucky enough to join in on that ride and let me tell you it was awesome!

If you’re in the area, you don’t want to miss this.

4 years strong: The 4130 Subway Series

11 01 2014

Based in Southern California but known around the world, The 4130 Subway Series hits the 4-year mark this weekend with what promises to be an epic ride.

4 years strong 4130 subway series

With every year the ride gets bigger and better, so if you’re anywhere in SoCal this weekend, you better drop what you’re doing and get down with the 4130 crew because this ride is pure BMX.

Even the post-ride celebration is worthy of mention…held at the Pig’N Whistle in Hollywood…riders get special “parking” for their bikes. When you roll 4130, you’re VIP!

Looking forward to seeing all the photos and videos from Saturday night.

Respect to the 4130 crew.

Have a great ride!

The Gonz rides in NYC on a Sunday 24″

9 01 2014

Mark Gonzales.

A pioneer of modern-day street skating, sought-after artist and speaker, one hell of a character and still widely influential to this day…Mark “The Gonz” Gonzales is a legend in the skate world.

What’s he up to these days?

Still skating…but…and this where things get interesting…he’s now riding a Sunday Wave-C as he takes on the streets of SoHo.

Check out this video posted over at Vice (along with a short interview).

Bowl riding on a Big Ripper

10 12 2013

Now I’ve seen everything.

The last time we caught up with Peter Ulbrich he was shredding a race track in a decidedly non racer-like manner (see This is where things go off the chain).

Now he’s back for a little skatepark/bowl riding on a 29″ wheel SE Big Ripper.

Yes, you read that right.

An SE Big Ripper.

With 29″ wheels.

Oh Man….

Still alive at five

13 11 2013

Wow, hard to believe that this little blog is still going strong after 5 great years!

So cool to think back to how the cruiser scene (and this site) has developed over the years…whether it’s the new bikes or new cruiser-specific aftermarket parts…the growing numbers of people switching over to big-wheeled BMXs…former riders “getting back on the horse” after following CR for a while…the great (and often funny) comments, discussions and messages…it’s all pretty awesome.

Thanks for rolling with me for all these years.

Cheers everybody.
