Bobby Parker’s Burly Park session

5 08 2014

Bobby Park just dropped this video of a Burly Park session in Burlington, Iowa.

Entitled Dramatical Model C the video offers surprisingly little drama…instead, just clips of straight-up shredding.

I have no problem with that.

Enjoy.

First look: Subrosa 26″ Malum

5 08 2014

The Subrosa 26″ Malum is a new addition to the Subrosa lineup for 2015.

It features a full chromoly frame (with an ovalized downtube) paired up with full chromoly forks and handlebars (7″ X 28″).

subrosa malum 26in

In terms of geometry, the frame sports the following specs:

  • 72 degree head tube
  • 73 degree seat tube
  • 22″ top tube
  • 16.65″ chain stay
  • 14.75″ standover height

You can find the rest of the specs here: 2015 Subrosa lineup.

Not too shabby but I’m not sure if I dig this as much as last year’s offering from Subrosa: the DTT TTWOFOUR frame and fork.

Word on the street the DTT TTWOFOUR is no more for 2015.

Which is a bit of a shame really because that frame was one of the more unique frames on the market last year.  If Subrosa decided to offer that as a well-spec’d complete…now that would be something!

Stop the presses: a 26″ custom Trail Boss

29 07 2014

Hot damn…this is one awesome looking bike.

Standard Bykes built up this custom 26″ Trail Boss for artist Chris Piascik and featured it a short while ago on their Facebook feed.

I’m actually kinda speechless about this bike, I’m digging on it so hard.

I don’t have all the particulars on it, geo-wise, but Standard has said in the comments regarding this bike that:

If we get a few guys into ordering these we’ll do a “stock” run of them…which means regular stock pricing!

Stock pricing? This bike is getting more tempting by the minute.

I have to stop looking at the picture.

Sneak Peek: 2015 Fairdale Taj Cruiser

17 07 2014

Fairdale Bikes recently put out a preview of their 2015 lineup and part of that preview included the 2015 Taj Cruiser.

The Taj is now in an eye-catching red and features Odyssey grips, seat, pedals, brakes and levers. It will be available as a complete and as a frame and fork kit.

2015 Fairdale Taj spec shotsAnd while complete specs and geometry will be released later (probably around Interbike in September, I’m guessing) the preview does promise that the Taj Cruiser features:

“Wheelie Poppin’, Curb Hoppin’ Track Certified Geometry.”

That’s good enough for me.

Check it out.

The nerd herd: RL & Buff

12 06 2014

A staple in the legendary 80s BMX mag, BMX Action, RL Osborn and Mike Buff could always be counted on for getting rad and doing whatever it took for a great photo.

According to 23mag.com,

As the “Nerd herd”, R.L. & Buff were vital in setting BMX trends during the 80’s, from jumping styles in bike tests to the 4×4 vehicle craze, to clothing fashions and hairdos.

Whether that meant Buff hitting the quarterpipe on a Robinson 24 (“a serious race bike”)

robinsonprocruisertestOr RL, laying down some serious roost in this two-page shot for a 24 shootout, they brought the heat every month.

rlcruiserAnd, with their riding captured by the equally legendary photographer/editor Bob Osborn, these photographs really stand the test of time.

Not a bad way to spend this “throwback thursday”, thinking back to this era and the impact these dudes had on it.

Sneak Peek: SE 24″ Quadangle Freestyle

5 06 2014

SE Bikes has been busy over the last day or so dropping teaser/sneak peek photos of some of their upcoming 2015 lineup.

One bike, in particular, is creating a lot of buzz…the new 24″ Quadangle Freestyle.

Sporting classic Oakley B-1B grips, front brakes, detangler, 80s-style white tires…this bike will pull at the heart strings of any old school BMX fan.

SE Freestyle Quad 24 handlebarKeeping the bike era-correct, SE dispenses with the standard Landing Gear forks and has opted for…wait for it… Standing Gear forks (with the built-in platforms).

And if you’re going to go to the trouble of putting on Standing Gear forks, you gotta go with the frame platforms too, right?

SE doesn’t disappoint.

SE Freestyle Quad 24 rear triangleBoom!

Here’s a close-up of the frame’s standing platforms.

You might recall that Rockabilly Jay whipped up a sweet custom SE Quadangle cruiser back in 2009.  That was impressive.

But this takes the whole retro revival thing to a new level.

Granted, it looks like a top-tube platform was not included…which is a bit of a misstep…bikes of the era (that this bike is supposed to emulate) almost always had top tube platforms.

Other than that though, the attention to detail…Oakley B-1B grips, Standing Gear…you name it….Todd Lyons and the SE crew get full points for going the extra mile on this one…this is one cool bike.

Listed as the Model C AM Plus now, it hasn’t departed too much from last year’s model, with the exception of a new look for 2015.  There’s a lot more chrome this time around, including chrome handlebars and forks.

Feeling Moody on a Monday

2 06 2014

How’s this for a Monday pick-me-up?

Joseph Moody laying out some style aboard a Mongoose prototype (that I’m pretty sure would later become the Mongoose Thrive) in San Francisco.

joe moody

I saw this picture a while back and filed it away in a mental file to use it in the future. When it popped up again in Moody’s Facebook feed, I knew I had to share.

Joe’s backstory makes this even more rad.

As you might remember from a previous post, it was through riding BMX that Joseph Moody discovered that he had cancer…and it was by riding BMX that he was able to beat it.

Moody is someone that not only kicks ass on a bike but he’s kicked cancer’s ass as well.

#TwoFourTuesday: Iowa edition

27 05 2014

Bobby Parker has been busy lately: adding a future BMXer to the family, moving from Texas to Iowa and now, reppin’ the Tree Bicycle Company.

Lots of changes.

What hasn’t changed is his ability to shred.

Here’s Bobby showing the Iowa City skatepark who’s the #TwoFourTuesday Boss.

Radness.

Are these tan tradeshow models available?

23 05 2014

It’s been almost a year since we spotted the tan tradeshow models of Kenda’s popular Kranium and Small Block Eight tires at Interbike.

Each of these tan models showed up on a complete bicycle from one of the bigger bike companies.

The Kranium on the Free Agent Ratio.

The Small Block Eight on the We The People Atlas.

In both cases, the tan walls added that “special little something” to the bikes to make them that little bit cooler.

You would think that with more and more tanwall tires showing up as stock on new completes that they would soon find their way to the aftermarket.

No cigar my friends.

I’m not sure why Kenda is holding back on these.

Are they just giving us a little eye candy at Interbike and then leaving us high and dry when we want to pick up these tan models after the show?

Has it all been one drawn-out tease?

It sure seems that way.
