Jon Faure takes on Woodward West

Jon Faure just sent an email with some great riding pics he took recently at Woodward West. You may remember Jon from a post awhile back called Is this going to be you at 45? or his interview on the Sunday bikes site.

Jon is still tearing it up on his Sunday Model-C and hopes to inspire a few more “older” riders to take the plunge and start riding a modern 24″ bike. Here’s what Jon had to say:

At 45 years old, this bike has me doing things I would never thought possible at my age. Especially since I really only started riding 6 or 7 years ago. More old guys need to take advantage of these new 24″ bikes. It makes riding so much easier and more fun!

Can’t argue with that!

Is this going to be you at 45?

Talk about inspiring! Sunday Bikes posted an interview today with 45 year-old rider Jon Faure and his experiences with the Model-C.  This guy kicks ass! What’s even better is he gets to share his love of riding with his son. If you’re a rider getting on in years, I think you’ll be pretty stoked when you read this.

Be still my heart…flatland on a 24″ bike!

Sunday bikes posted some great pictures today of flatlander Dan Sirkin busting out a bunch of flatland moves  on his Model-C.  Hitchhikers, steamrollers and more…According to Dan:

“Just about anything is possible.  It definitely spins a bit slow because of the big wheels but it holds straight lines and wide circles very well.”

Just another example of the versatility of modern-day cruisers. For more 24″ flatland,  check out this video.

Fit CR24 gets an update for 2010

Fit bikes just released their 2010 catalogue and it looks like the CR24 has been updated for the new year.  Available in chrome (pictured) and black it looks like Fit has followed the lead of Sunday bikes and gone with a higher bottom bracket. We the People also went with a higher BB on their 2010 24″ Avenue. (I guess there’s no better vindication of Sunday’s pioneering move to update 24″ bike geometry than to have other big-name companies use it on their own models.)

I’m a bit suprised that the top tube length is now shorter…down to 21.25″. While not a significant difference, a large number of 24″ riders are the big side so making the rider area smaller seems to be a strange move.

Also, would it kill them to put some gold components on the black version? They’ve done it on some of their 20″ models and it really makes the bike look sharp.

I do like the chrome version though. It’s got that sweet, old school 80s vibe to it.

Pack it up, pack it in, let me begin

If you’ve just made the switch from 20″  to 24″ bikes, you may be in for a little surprise when you get ready for your first roadtrip. The car that you could pretty much throw your 20″ into, suddenly become inhospitable for your 24″.  And unlike a mountain bike, a 24″ BMX bike doesn’t have a quick release to quickly take off the front wheel.  Solution? Always, keep a socket wrench and an allen key around and take off your front wheel and seat/seatpost the old-fashioned way.

Up, Up and Away premiere was fun

Checked out the Sunday Up, Up and Away premiere last Friday at Core…for a fairly small place they really managed to pack in a lot of people for the event. The vibe was pretty chill and everyone seemed pretty eager to see the new vid. I have to say I’m pretty stoked on it. Standouts for me have to be the Aaron Ross section, and of course, all  the great footage of Jim C. on the Model-C.     24″ bikes finally get their due in a progressive BMX video!

If you didn’t get a chance to attend one of the premieres, you owe it to yourself to track down a copy and check it out. From start to finish, it’s non-stop awesome riding…this is definitely one of the best videos out there right now.

Jim C. on the Model-C: video edit

This video edit on the Sunday bikes site does a great job of showing  the Model-C and the plus 4 cruiser parts, going over all the unique design features of the bike and the thinking behind them.  More importantly it shows what this cruiser can do at the skatepark and in the streets. This is as much an ad for modern-day 24″ riding as it is for the Model-C.

Big & tall Sunday 24umph bars

It’s probably due to growing up near Buffalo, NY that I somehow have  a Buffalo TV station’s  commercial from the ’80s in my head whenever I read something about Sunday’s plus 4 parts. The  commercial featured a variety of Buffalo residents saying with fake glee, “We’re 4 Buffalo!”

Fortunately, the only connection that this cheesy TV commercial and Sunday bikes have in common is the city of Buffalo. Case in point, the new Sunday 24umph bars. Channel 4 in Buffalo has little to recommend it, but these handlebars are definitely worth checking out.

If you’ve been looking for a tall, wide cruiser handlebar (like I have), these could be just the ticket. You’re not going to find many cruiser bars with even a 6.5″ rise, much less  the 7.25″ rise that  these have. Believe me, I’ve been looking! They’re 28″ wide too. Created with the 41-thermal process  made famous by Odyssey they should be as tough as nails. I’d been looking at other handlebars but these are starting to look very appealing now that I know their dimensions…I have to admit I’ve already started to envision the silver ones on my bike…

24″ news from Ride, Sunday & Odyssey

I guess you can call this your weekend wrap post.

Ride BMX ran a bike check and mini-interview with Jim C. from Sunday Bikes on Friday. There are some great shots of the Model-C and Jim does a good job of explaining the differences between riding a 20″ and a 24″ bike in the interview.  I’m pretty stoked to see that the 24umph bars featured in the bike check were 28″ wide…I’m looking for a pair of wide cruiser bars, so if they’re in the 6.5″ height range…well, let’s just say my interest is piqued.

In other Sunday Bikes news, the new trailer for Up, Up and Away is out…with the Model-C making an appearance in the end. Nice.  Karl Poynter is also leaving the Sunday team but not before getting a few runs on the ol’ cruiser (as you can see in the picture below). Abubaca!
