The deets on DK’s 2015 lineup

26 09 2014

DK Bicycles decided to mix things up this year and forgo the annual trip to Vegas/Interbike  and instead have a dealer open house at DK HQ to display their wares.

It was a pretty cool setup, as you can see from this shot of the event space .  A  fun little indoor park with a booth that had all the 2015 bikes right across from it.

DK parkIn terms of their new bikes, DK has a solid cruiser lineup for 2015.

First up, their top-of-the line race bike, the Elite Cruiser.

DK Elite Cruiser 2015For 2015, they’ve changed the grips to their own DK Tsuka lock-ons, updated the chain stays to be bigger and stiffer, and added a 20mm rear hub.

DK Elite Cruiser 2015 back endThe mid-level Sprinter Cruiser gets an update in the looks department with an eye-catching colorway.  No major changes component and handling-wise.

The “ready-to-shred” Cygnus gets bigger tires with pin stripe sidewalls, a padded mid style seat/post combo, and chrome bars. It also gets a new look: colors include Polished Red (essentially a transparent red over silver) and a Electric Neon Blue.

Cool stuff spotted in the catalogs

18 09 2014

Sometimes vendors have to make the tough call when it comes to what bikes and parts to display at Interbike.

Whether it’s logistics, space issues or something else, sometimes bikes and components that you were kinda hoping to see aren’t on display.

Here are some of the bikes that I wished were on display at Interbike, based on the catalogs that I saved from the show.

The first is the 2015 Stolen Saint XLT 24 Complete in Chrome. This thing looks sweet! (And the Matte Electric Red colorway is not too shabby either.)

2015 SAINT XLT Chrome

The next bike is also from Stolen. It’s the 2015 Zeke Complete 26″ in Matte Electric Green…this colorway will definitely turn some heads! (It’s also available in Matte Raw Silver.)

2015-ZEKE Electric Green

The next is the SE Quadangle Freestyle 24.  If you recall, we checked out a sneak peek of this bike back in June. I had my fingers crossed that I would be able to check it out in Vegas.  No such luck. Still digging this bike though…old school looks with new school geo…would love to try one of these bad boys out!

2015 SE QUADANGLE FREESTYLE 24Definitely some cool looking rides!

Sneak Peek: 2015 Fairdale Taj Cruiser

17 07 2014

Fairdale Bikes recently put out a preview of their 2015 lineup and part of that preview included the 2015 Taj Cruiser.

The Taj is now in an eye-catching red and features Odyssey grips, seat, pedals, brakes and levers. It will be available as a complete and as a frame and fork kit.

2015 Fairdale Taj spec shotsAnd while complete specs and geometry will be released later (probably around Interbike in September, I’m guessing) the preview does promise that the Taj Cruiser features:

“Wheelie Poppin’, Curb Hoppin’ Track Certified Geometry.”

That’s good enough for me.

Check it out.

Rockin’ the eye of the tiger on an SE Quad

20 06 2014

Now this is the way to start your day!

Rocking Eye of the Tiger and taking on the mean streets of the city riding a cruiser, Rocky-style.

BOOJI brand shoes brings it all together in this video from a few years back.

Enjoy.

Feeling Moody on a Monday

2 06 2014

How’s this for a Monday pick-me-up?

Joseph Moody laying out some style aboard a Mongoose prototype (that I’m pretty sure would later become the Mongoose Thrive) in San Francisco.

joe moody

I saw this picture a while back and filed it away in a mental file to use it in the future. When it popped up again in Moody’s Facebook feed, I knew I had to share.

Joe’s backstory makes this even more rad.

As you might remember from a previous post, it was through riding BMX that Joseph Moody discovered that he had cancer…and it was by riding BMX that he was able to beat it.

Moody is someone that not only kicks ass on a bike but he’s kicked cancer’s ass as well.

Monday minutes

7 04 2014

It’s the start of the week and there’s already a bunch of news to check out.

Pull magazine/USA BMX dropped a teaser on their facebook page recently about their “2014 Cruiser issue” set to hit USA BMX/BMX Canada members’ mailboxes any day now. According to the promo blurb, the mag will:

[g]o Inside the mind of a Champion with National #1 Cruiser Shawn DiPrete. Check out the top cruisers in the industry and some awesome race action at the Cajun Nationals.

Haven’t received my copy yet, but nice to see this type of feature.

Still on the magazine theme, Mark Summers, co-owner of Joyride 150 gets some well-deserved coverage from Bike magazine. Check out  Joyride 150’s instagram page for more.

Cale Avery Schindler, who wowed us with his creative riding in last week’s Clip du jour, is now rolling on a Sunday Wave-C. He mentioned that he was in the market for a new frame (in the comments of that post)…looks like it didn’t take him long.

Finally, to kick the week off right…check out these two little 4-year old shredders from NZ, Jake and Theo riding (and crashing) their bikes. Looks like they’re having a blast.  So awesome.

Trailer tease: 4130 Subway Series doc

3 04 2014

From humble beginnings, the 4130 Subway Series Ride has grown to become the largest BMX ride in North America (and probably the world).

Hitting streets of Hollywood, LA, Beverly Hills and points beyond, this ride draws hundreds of riders every month.

Now, for those folks that haven’t made it out to a ride yet, PSi films has teamed up with the 4130 crew to put together a documentary on the ride.  The release date has been pushed out a bit (no confirmation at press time) but if this trailer is any indication, it looks like it’s gonna be a good one!

And in related news, as was mentioned back in the Spring Brake Ride Las Vegas post back in February, the 4130 Subway Series crew is meeting up with Sin City Series crew this month for an epic ride through Vegas.

4130 LA to Vegas

I joined these guys (both the LA and Vegas crews) back in 2011 for the first ride they did together (I’m actually in the pic above, under the Vegas sign) and it was an awesome time. Not to be missed if you can make your way out there.

Clip du jour: Cale Avery Schindler

27 03 2014

Clip du jour.  Clip of the day.

Cale Avery Schindler comes through with a great edit that sees him shredding everything in site.

Whether it’s street, the skatepark, a race track, dirt jumps…you name it…no terrain is safe is from Cale’s unique brand of radness.

Filmed and edited by Pdog (who’s no slouch in the riding/edit department either) this video should get you stoked to ride, for sure.

Nice job Cale.

(I thought for sure he was going to slip off this pipe at 1:05 in the edit)

Tomfoolery from Taj: Fairdale R&D

25 03 2014

It’s not often the bike industry gives away its secrets so freely, but Fairdale Bikes head honcho, Taj Mihelich is pulling back the covers for an in-depth look into the research and development of Fairdale’s line of bikes.*

Joined by fellow R&D test rider (and flatland legend) Leif Valin, Taj highlights how they test both their  prototypes and current products. Even the 26″ Taj cruiser makes an appearance!

If this video doesn’t get you smiling, I don’t know what will.

*uhm, kinda sorta

Pharrell Williams & Nigel Sylvester talk BMX

14 03 2014

Pharrell Williams seems to be everywhere these days.

From award shows to curating design exhibitions and everywhere in between, Pharrell Williams is in the media spotlight in a big way.

But did I expect to see him show up in an edit with Nigel Sylvester talking BMX?

No way.

But here we are.

This follows on the heels of last year’s announcement that the pair were collaborating to create Brooklyn Machine Works complete BMX bikes.

pharrell williams discusses bmx culture

Looks like a pretty cool project for the both of them.

I think we’re in for some cool stuff from these two.
