Kevin Jones rode a 24″ at the York Jam

2 07 2010

Flatland legend Kevin Jones showed up at the York Jam last weekend riding a Sunday Model C! Easily the most influential flatland rider of his era, the list of flatland tricks he invented is too long to recap here…needless to say, seeing him on a 24″ bike is pretty exciting.

Jim C has also got to be pretty pleased that Kevin is on a Model-C. Check out the Sunday Bikes site for a bigger version of the Eric Mitchell photo above.

For more 24″ flatland action, check out this post on Dan Sirkin flatlanding on his Model-C.

You complete me…

29 10 2009

ESPN just posted a great interview with Jim C. from Sunday Bikes talking about their new line of complete bikes.  There’s some good stuff about the Model-C,  including details about the components and pricing:

The 24″ Model-C complete retails for about $550 and comes with a full chromoly frame, fork and bars. There’s eight different Odyssey parts including V3 cassette hub, Aitken 24-inch tires and EVO II brakes amongst others. The best part is it carries over the same proven geometry of the Model-C frame, fork and bars.

He also talks about why Sunday decided to go with a complete 24:

We decided to do the 24-inch complete because people mostly believed the geometry worked, but they weren’t willing to spend the money to find out. A shop could now let someone try it out, see that it works and be able to afford it without spending too much money.

Probably the best/funniest part of the interview is this part:

Riders have it good today. They could be getting an orange GT with curved toptube and three-spoke mags like we did back in the ’90s. No wonder why kids started skateboarding back then, the learning curve on one of those was terrible.

No word yet on what the top tube length will be on the Model-C complete, but more info is supposed to be on the way next week. I guess I’ll continue to keep my fingers crossed that it will be the 21.75″ size.

Up, Up and Away premiere was fun

19 05 2009

Checked out the Sunday Up, Up and Away premiere last Friday at Core…for a fairly small place they really managed to pack in a lot of people for the event. The vibe was pretty chill and everyone seemed pretty eager to see the new vid. I have to say I’m pretty stoked on it. Standouts for me have to be the Aaron Ross section, and of course, all  the great footage of Jim C. on the Model-C.     24″ bikes finally get their due in a progressive BMX video!

If you didn’t get a chance to attend one of the premieres, you owe it to yourself to track down a copy and check it out. From start to finish, it’s non-stop awesome riding…this is definitely one of the best videos out there right now.

Jim C. on the Model-C: video edit

29 03 2009

This video edit on the Sunday bikes site does a great job of showing  the Model-C and the plus 4 cruiser parts, going over all the unique design features of the bike and the thinking behind them.  More importantly it shows what this cruiser can do at the skatepark and in the streets. This is as much an ad for modern-day 24″ riding as it is for the Model-C.
Check it out.

24″ news from Ride, Sunday & Odyssey

9 03 2009

I guess you can call this your weekend wrap post.

Ride BMX ran a bike check and mini-interview with Jim C. from Sunday Bikes on Friday. There are some great shots of the Model-C and Jim does a good job of explaining the differences between riding a 20″ and a 24″ bike in the interview.  I’m pretty stoked to see that the 24umph bars featured in the bike check were 28″ wide…I’m looking for a pair of wide cruiser bars, so if they’re in the 6.5″ height range…well, let’s just say my interest is piqued.

In other Sunday Bikes news, the new trailer for Up, Up and Away is out…with the Model-C making an appearance in the end. Nice.  Karl Poynter is also leaving the Sunday team but not before getting a few runs on the ol’ cruiser (as you can see in the picture below). Abubaca!

Odyssey also has some pics floating around the interweb of the new 24″ hazard lite rims and 24 inch Aitken tire samples.

And that’s about it for today. Till next time…play safe and keep the rubber side down.

Every day is like Sunday

22 02 2009

Sunday Bikes has set up a Flickr group…which isn’t that exciting by itself…except in it you’ll find some new photos of the about to be released Model-C.

Like this good shot of the Model-C as Jim C. gets ready for a session. Love the gold components.

Or this one…Jim C. again with a nice toboggan transfer out of a mini.

Fingers crossed that we’ll see more photos of the Model-C being put through its paces.
