Spying a nice Stout build

1 03 2016

Matt at STOUT Bikes has been producing great custom frames (as well as forks and handlebars) out of his Texas shop for some time now.

We’ve featured his work before…Buddy Sardenga‘s super-cool Beelzebike, The 20 666’er was the first time…and more recently…Joshua “Lurch” Gittere’s custom 26-inch.

In both cases I was blown away by the build quality and attention to detail. Both owners were both pretty stoked on their respective bikes too.

And who could blame them? They’re both great bikes (I’ve ridden both.)

So the other day, I was surfing the net — flitting between bike sites — as I’m wont to do.

And I found myself over at the STOUT Bikes website.

After spending way too much time checking out all the custom frames, forks and bars, I caught myself checking out a build simply called “Ron’s 24”.

The bike looked huge!

I don’t know the specs but that front end appears plenty roomy.

The back end looks tight though…so it definitely looks like it would be great to shred on.

Rons Stout 24According to the writeup:

Ron is like eight feet tall. He is one of the guys I met in Oregon that helps build a kickass local dirt park. I hope he’s liking this thing better than that tiny P24 that he broke.

I’m super curious about the specs/geo now! If the other STOUT Bikes I’ve ridden are anything to go on (and I think they are) this is probably a rad bike to ride.

I hope I have a chance to test ride this bike some day.

Here’s a pic of the fork and bars.

Rons 24inch forks & barsDang…as if I’m not feeling those bars too!

If these pictures have whet your appetite for some more custom bike porn…mosey on over to the STOUT bikes website, I know you won’t be disappointed.

Lurch’s custom Stout 26-inch

30 04 2015

This sweet ride caught my attention during my last trip to Ray’s MTB in Cleveland.

The owner of the bike, Joshua “Lurch” Gittere, was tearing up the jumps on it so I chased him down to get the scoop.

Very much in the MTB or BMX? category, his custom-built bike seems to combine elements of both styles of riding to make something very distinctive.

Lurch custom stout

Manufactured by Matt at Stout Bikes (you might remember the eye-catching Beelzebike was also made by Stout) this bike is big and strong.

Lurch had originally asked to have it built up for a 100mm suspension fork, which is how he rode it for a little bit.

Then he decided he wanted to see what it rode like when it was built up like a “true” bmx bike with rigid forks and big bars.

According to Lurch, the new setup,

“Feels amazing!! Rides soooo smooth and works for me…anything that keeps me riding is whats up in my book.”

Lurch said he had dealt with some back problems in the past and this setup really made it easy for him to ride and be comfortable on his bike again.  Who can argue with that?

Introducing Beelzebike the 20 666 ‘er

26 10 2012

With all the  cruisers popping out of the woodwork from non-BMX companies, Buddy Sardenga  thought he would drop us a line to show us what he had custom built  a few months ago.

Buddy said he loved his 24″ Liquid so much that he wanted a 26″ that felt similar but rode smoother.

So he contacted Matt at Stout bikes (outside of Houston) to talk to him about his plans.

Buddy kept the same 74 degree head tube angle and 72 degree seat tube angle (from the Liquid frame) but bumped up the top tube from 22″ to 23.1″, the chainstays from 14.25″ to 15.1″, the seat tube from 9.15″to 11.5″, and the bottom bracket from 12.7″to 13.75″.

According to Buddy, it’s amazing to ride, feels like his Liquid but a smoother ride (which is exactly what he wanted).

He also asked Matt at Stout to put a devil head on the head tube but Matt did him one better than that and gave the bike it’s own set of devil horns!

Beelzebike the 20 666 ‘er was born.

Action shots coming soon!

Updated InDust Cuatro: spy photos

9 03 2012

Back in November, pictures of the new InDust Cuatro 24 were making the rounds on the Internet.

Now it looks like some refinements have been made to the geometry.

Most notably a slacker head angle (presumably to make it more stable at high speeds when riding trails) and a lower seat tube.

Stout Bikes (the company manufacturing the frames) let the cat out of the bag with some spy photos on their website the other day.

These are looking really good. No word yet on when these will be released but I suspect it will be in limited quantities when they do.

Check out the InDust Facebook page or their webpage for all the latest developments.

New InDust Cuatro 24 looks interesting

21 11 2011

Just spotted this in a Ridemonkey thread tonight….CMC‘s new InDust Cuatro 24 prototype build.

Made by Stout Bikes in Texas, and billed as “a 24 inch BMX frame with aggressive geometry built for the aggressive rider”, this looks like one serious shredding machine.

Frame specs (according to the Ridemonkey thread, may not be final):

  • 22 3/8″ top tube
  • 14 3/8″ chain stay (slammed)
  • 13″ (approx.) bottom bracket
  • 74-74.5 degree head angle (not confirmed)
  • 4130 chromoly

Not sure what the plans are for a production run of these but I’m definitely interested in hearing more about this frame.

If you want to find out more about the InDust Cuarto, check out the InDust site or the related Ridemonkey thread.
