Jim C continues to kick out the jams

When Jim Cielencki jumped back into the pool (so to speak) earlier this summer in regards to riding we were cautiously optimistic that we would see more of Jim back on the bike

We even joked what the over/under would be on new riding pics and video…but it seems like the old adage of “once a rider, always a rider” is holding true.

The proof?

Jim dropped some serious heat on his Instagram this past weekend…with a bunch of awesome riding pics and clips from WNY Jam.

Converting the 22″ Spade to a 24″ cruiser

We’ve featured a number of Buddy Sardenga’s bikes and riding shots over the years…but this latest hybrid build is definitely one of the most interesting.

Buddy’s been riding a Stolen Spade 22 for a while and last week he had the brilliant/crazy idea one morning to see what would happen if he put some of the parts off his old 24″ S&M ATF onto the Spade frame.

Almost like doing the opposite of the conversion/mod from a couple years back when a rider converted a 24″ Sunday Wave-C to a 22″ rider.

The result? A 24″ that rides very similar to the classic 24″ Liquid Feedback.

As you can see, the rear axle is way out but still at about 14.6″.

The head tube is now more mellow, probably at 73-ish degrees and the bottom bracket at 13.25″.

According to Buddy, the new converted Spade is super roomy and “manuals crazy good”.

Pretty cool.

Buddy hadn’t been out to the trails yet on it (at least since the last time we chatted) but this looks like it would be hella fun there too.

Blue Monday: Fairdale reveals ’19 Taj color

If you were on the Cruiser Revolution Facebook page over the weekend you might have already seen this.

Fairdale has revealed the 2019 colorway for the Taj Cruiser and it is looking nice! (This color is right up my alley.)

No word if anything has changed much from the previous year’s edition (geo and specs) but from a quick look above it seems like Fairdale is sticking with the tried and true.

Which is great because that means you can still pull off daring stunts like the one below without too much trouble.

Radical!

Once a rider, always a rider?

I guess the old adage:

“You can take the boy out of BMX but you can’t take the BMX out of the boy”

applies in this case.

When Jim Cielencki popped back on the riding radar recently with some rad pool riding pics, we (along with the rest of the BMX world) got a little excited.

We wondered what the over/under was on some more Jim C riding pics was.

I, for one, had my fingers crossed. A couple days back, my suspicions/optimism was rewarded.

Jim shared a screen grab on his insta sessioning the Buffalo hubba.

In the caption/writeup, mentions that the Sunday Model-C turns 10 this year. Time sure does fly (Cruiser Revolution turns 10 this year too!)

It’s crazy to think a decade has passed since the Model C was introduced. (For a trip down memory lane and a rad pic of a Jim C toothhanger on a rail, have a look at CR’s initial post about it in 2008.)

So much radness!

Jim closes of his post with the line, “I think some more riding is in order. ”

Yes sir, I definitely agree some more riding is in order.

Subrosa debuts double top tube 26″

Subrosa’s latest cruiser offering looks a bit like a mashup of some of their past cruiser hits.

The Subrosa Malum DTT 26″ brings together the coolness of the Subrosa DTT TTWOFOUR with Subrosa lineup mainstay, the 26″ Malum.

It features full Cro-mo frame, fork and handlebars (which are 4-piece…hey now!)

In terms of geo/specs, it doesn’t depart much from past Malum 26 models.

For reference, that works out to the following:

  • Head angle: 72 degrees
  • Seat angle: 73 degrees
  • Top tube: 22″
  • Chain stay: 16″
  • Stand over: 14.75″

Subrosa also rounded out their new 26er with aftermarket parts from Rant and The Shadow Conspiracy. (For more detail, click here.)

Color options are black or (pictured above) slime green.

These are dropping at Subrosa dealers right now, so if you’re in the market for a unique looking 26″ bike, this could be the ticket!

What’s the over/under on more Jim C pics?

If you’re a betting man and you’re wagering that you’re going to see some more Jim Cielencki pool riding pics…you’re in luck!

Jim C’s “active retirement” continues with some over/under action with jon_bad !

According to Jim, “it took some mighty fine BMX choreography to get this to work.”

No doubt!

Not the last one in the pool

Jim Cielencki’s “retirement” from riding seems to have gone off (or into) the deep end as of late.

But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

In a bit of an unexpected surprise, Jim C has dived back into riding (at least for the moment) to session a local pool that’s scheduled to get filled in soon.

He’s been documenting those sessions on his Instagram account. And based on the comments there, I’m not the only one stoked to see Jim C out riding again.

And even though it’s only the third time this year out on his bike…according to Jim this is “the highest [he’s] aired in this pool”.

The stoke is real!

Good to see Jim C back on the bike!

Gettin’ radical on the Haro Group 1 RS2

Haro continues to re-up the retro with their bike lineup…this time with the soon-to-be-released Group 1 RS2.

This 80s-inspired cruiser is going to be available in late summer in 24, 26 & 29 inch models.

To get the hype going, Haro team manager Joey Cobbs took the 24″ Group 1 RS2 for a ride and shared the results on Instagram and Facebook.

And despite being a race-style cruiser, Cobbs had no problem getting his shred on. In fact, it kinda reminded me of when the BMX Action test crew would take race cruisers and test them by taking them jumping and riding half pipes.

Cobbs was definitely in more of a “street session” mode vs. “snapping gates” mode with this ride.

Which makes these pictures so much more fun.

Hope to see more teaser shots (and maybe a video?…wink,wink; nudge, nudge) like this in the future for Haro’s new cruiser.

2019 Zeke XLT: two new colorways

Stolen mixed things up with two new colorway options for the 2019 Stolen Zeke XLT.

One option is an eye-popping “yellow jacket” colorway.

I’m not sure if they took cues from some of the race frames out there currently…but that yellow, along with the new graphics, definitely reminded of that.

The second option is definitely more stealth. “Black with Urban Camo”. The urban camo part comes from the black & white camo tires on this version. An interesting look for sure!

The Zeke XLT is all Cro-mo, features 100% sealed components and 48-spline cranks, and now sports a new longer 300mm Pivotal post for you to raise up if you just want to sit and cruise (or wheelie).

First look: Kink Drifter 26

The Kink Drifter is new to the Kink complete lineup in a couple of ways…one, it is a brand new model and two, it is Kink’s first – ever!– cruiser.

Sporting 26″ wheels, and a full cro-mo frame, fork and handlebar set up…it has the essentials covered.

In the looks deparment, it also checks the boxes…a Matte Guinness* Black colorway, complemented with  chrome-plated cranks and a brass headtube badge. Nice.

The Drifter features sealed bearings throughout to keep you rolling, and double wall rims front and rear to give you confidence when you’re boosting curb cuts.

Kink even went so far as to tap the headtube for Gyro tabs…so you can get your boomerang (or bar spin) on without a care, if that’s what you’re into.

Here’s the spec breakdown:

  • Head Tube Angle: 71°
  • Seat Tube Angle: 73°
  • Top Tube Length: 22.25″
  • Chainstay Length: 16″
  • Standover Height: 14″
  • Bottom Bracket Height: 12.25″
  • Fork Offset: 26mm

*drinking Guinness while assembling the bike is not required, but certainly recommended…at least by me.
