Supercross set to release 24″ carbon frame

28 10 2019

Supercross BMX dropped the big news over the weekend.

A 24″ version of the carbon ENVY BLK 2 is in production. (In fact, team riders already have them in their hands!)

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a race company take the leap and bring their 24s into the carbon fold (Was Prophecy BMX the last one? No wait, it was Speedco ).

This is a good looking ride.

Based on their 20″ version, I think we’re going to see some positive reviews when people get their hands on these.

Starting off with one size for now, the Pro XL (which sports a 22″ top tube)  seems a smart move, due to the tooling costs of carbon. It will allow Supercross to gauge demand and refine it (if need be) before jumping to other sizes.

It’s a bit spendy at $1395 US for the frame but then again all carbon frames are…and if you’re looking for the ultimate in race performance, sometimes  you have to pay the toll to rock n’ roll.

You can check out the specs and the rest of the details over on the Supercross BMX site.

In the mean time, I’m hoping to see one these rigs in action when one of their team riders unleashes it at an upcoming National.

Sneak Peek: 24″ Speedco carbon frame

4 03 2016

While the “carbon footprint” of 20″ race frames shows no signs of slowing down, people racing cruiser have had to sit along the sidelines for a long time waiting for their turn.

Granted, Prophecy BMX does (did?) offer a carbon 24 but most of the major race outfits have been slow to offer a big wheel option to riders.

If you’re one of those riders anxious to get on a carbon 24….well, you’re wait is about to come to an end.

Speedco BMX has announced that they’re working on a 24” version of their VELOX carbon frame.

Details are very preliminary at this point — hence the 3D rendering — but plans are to get these babies out to riders in the fall of this year, 2016.

The Prophecy Scud 24 in action

16 01 2013

In December, we shared the news that Prophecy was planning on releasing a carbon 24.

Pictures were scarce, so we did not have much to go on beyond some basic specs and a picture of their 20″ model.

Thankfully over the weekend, FastlaneBMXMag managed to not only track down some pictures of the Prophecy Scud 24 prototype but a web edit of Trevor Stamford putting it through its paces at a BMX track.

As you can see, the Scud 24 is not going to weigh you down.

The prototype built up into a full-on race machine.

What do you think? Would you race a  24″ carbon frame?

Is Prophecy releasing a 24″ carbon frame?

4 12 2012

After all the hype the Redline Project 79 kit generated last year, I was sure that Redline would take what they had learned with the 20″ frame and quickly parlay that into a 24″ version.

I’m sure that former cruiser champ and Redline team member, “Gorgeous George” Goodall was hoping for that too.

However, to date there hasn’t been a peep from the Redline about doing this.

Now it looks like Prophecy BMX has beat them to the punch.

According to Red Division, Prophecy is coming out with a 24″ version of their carbon Scud Pro frame.

Pictures are scarce, so currently all we have as a visual is the 20″ frame.

According to the spec sheet I found on their site, the 24″ features:

  • 73.5 degree head angle
  • 71 degree seat angle
  • 21.5″ top tube
  • 15.25″ chainstays

(For more specs, check out this PDF on their site.)

Curious to see if these become a hot item at the race track.

No word yet on availability but I will pass along any news or developments I hear of.
