RAD movie script on eBay

15 04 2009

I’m no economist but when you see an authentic RAD movie script go up on eBay you know something is up. Either this recession is going supernova or this is a sure sign that things have gotten so bad that a rebound is right around the corner.

What’s even more surprising is who the seller is…it’s none other than bike-thief chasing Rick Moliterno.  Apparently he’s also got a boatload of the original Shimano DX pedals available for the highest bidder.

I’m holding out for that sweet candy apple red Hutch Trick Star he used to ride back in the day when he was touring with Woody Itson. If that baby goes up for sale, prepare for a bidding war.

Orange Y BMX on YouTube

18 02 2009

Messing around on YouTube recently I found a couple of things on the mythical Orange Y BMX track…Back in the day I would read about this track  in BMX magazines, how it was the local track for so many of the big name racers. Well, it’s still going strong today. And you learn all about it in these two videos…albeit in two different (and equally as goofy) ways.

First, the amusing way:

Second, like an instructional video narrated by someone that speaks like he is reciting dialogue from an adult film:

Rally driver backflips Dave Mirra’s cruiser

13 02 2009

BMX cruisers…they’re not just for coffee runs anymore. Dave Mirra recently loaned rally car driver Matt Johnson a cruiser (the one he uses for coffee runs) to ride in his warehouse.  Apparently, Matt is a quick study…stomping a backflip like it was nuthin’.

Freestyle BMX in 2012 London Olympics

6 02 2009

What is going on here? Bikebiz.com is reporting that the 2012 Olympics will feature Freestyle BMX! Seeing racing hit the Olympic big time was one thing…but freestyle? That’s pretty incredible. I wonder if  the Olympic powers-that-be will be able to handle the notorious “free-spirited” antics of the average freestyle superstar. We’ll see…

olympic-bmxBMX racing hit the Olympic stage last summer

In a weird coincidence, I stumbled across this today as well:

the beast

the beast

Never mind that the bike will give you whiplash from ’80s nostalgia…look at the numberplate….is it just coincidence that these two items surfaced on the same day? We may be in the end times…

24″ BMX on a budget

29 01 2009

I was in my local shop the other day and saw that they were clearing out ’08 DK General Lee 24s  for $200 and change. Not a bad deal when you think about it…for less than the price of a department store bike you can get a pretty decent entry-level trails cruiser…heck, my brother has a $200 seatpost on his mountain bike….this bike is steal when you consider what you’re getting.

If you’re thinking about making the move to a 24″, on a budget or just looking to invoke the spirit of those fun-loving Duke boys; tracking down one of these bad boys (while they’re still around) might be in your best interests.

And how can I write something about the General Lee without including this?

Dude, it’s cold outside…

14 01 2009

Another day of the winter deep freeze, and I’m getting cabin fever…I’m looking at my bike leaning up against the wall and just wishing  I could just go out  and jump curbs or something.

In the meantime, here’s a little Volume Sledgehammer trailer that I stumbled across on YouTube that reminds me of better (I mean warmer) times:
