When you get an unseasonably warm day in the fall, I don’t think there’s a rider out there that doesn’t immediately think, “I have to go ride.” This past weekend seemed more like summer than fall and the local trails were packed with people taking advantage of the weather. People were in a good mood…maybe feeling like Mother Nature was making amends for the rainy summer we had. The vibe was mellow and the smiles came easy…but I guess that’s what a little sunshine can do for you.

Jon Faure probably doesn’t have to worry too much about squeezing as much riding as he can in before winter hits (he lives in California) but does that really matter? Everyone loves a good jumping picture, right? This one’s from ridemonkey.com.
I couldn’t be more stoked riding my new Sunday Model C. At 45 years of age riding stuff like this can be really scary, especially your first time through. This was the second of two jumps at “The King of Dirt” comp at DaCompound. The first jump was much harder to clear. I just want to say thanks to Jim C who created this bike and has me more pumped than ever about riding. I have never felt so good on a bike. These jumps were by far the biggest I have ever done and this bike gave me the confidence to go for it.
Who’s the man? That’s right, you are!
At 37 I am just getting back into riding. My 8 year old son has started to race but he is clearly more into park, street etc. just like his dad was 15 years ago.
I have been riding a Standard cruiser which is great for racing but can’t wait to get the Model C after reading your story and watching Jim C’s video. I hope this indeed fuels the “Cruiser Revolution” and more ex-riders come back to the sport. It got me to lose all my extra weight and has me more excited than ever about being a father of four.
Is this the BMX version of a mid life crisis?
Maybe so but it sure beats a Corvette and some gold chains.
Steve, great to hear your story. It sounds so similar to mine. I was 38 and my son was 9 when we started riding together. So we have about the same age difference between ourselves and our son. Once you get the model c you will be so stoked on riding! And yes, it is a mid life crisis but in my opinion its a pretty good outlet for us to re-live our youth. We can be a good dad and have fun at the same time!
