24″ news from Ride, Sunday & Odyssey

I guess you can call this your weekend wrap post.

Ride BMX ran a bike check and mini-interview with Jim C. from Sunday Bikes on Friday. There are some great shots of the Model-C and Jim does a good job of explaining the differences between riding a 20″ and a 24″ bike in the interview.  I’m pretty stoked to see that the 24umph bars featured in the bike check were 28″ wide…I’m looking for a pair of wide cruiser bars, so if they’re in the 6.5″ height range…well, let’s just say my interest is piqued.

In other Sunday Bikes news, the new trailer for Up, Up and Away is out…with the Model-C making an appearance in the end. Nice.  Karl Poynter is also leaving the Sunday team but not before getting a few runs on the ol’ cruiser (as you can see in the picture below). Abubaca!

Odyssey also has some pics floating around the interweb of the new 24″ hazard lite rims and 24 inch Aitken tire samples.

Sunday Bikes has set up a Flickr group…which isn’t that exciting by itself…except in it you’ll find some new photos of the about to be released Model-C.

Like this good shot of the Model-C as Jim C. gets ready for a session. Love the gold components.

Even though I check out the Sunday! Bikes site on a semi-regular basis, this little post slipped by without me noticing till a couple of days ago.

Easy like sunday morning

Sunday bikes just posted a pic the other day of some samples of the much anticipated Model-C frame.

Production colors are olive green and silver. Specs are as follows:

  • top tube length: 21.25″ and 21.75″
  • chain stay length 15″
  • head tube angle 75 degrees
  • seat tube angle 71 degreesi
  • bottom bracket height 13.75″

Special 24umph cruiser bars and Morning 24.1 forks will also be available to complement the frame. Release is scheduled for sometime in the spring.

I’m really looking forward to giving one of these frames a spin. According to Jim C. at Sunday these bikes are supposed to ride more like a 20″ and will be a lot more nimble/versatile than a traditional race cruiser.

I don’t know what it is about this picture that stokes me out so much…is it the cool found terrain? the jaunty toque? Or memories of past mid-winter rides?

Who’s to say? Certainly seems more fun than just riding in a parking garage though.

sunday bloody sunday

The interweb has been ablaze lately with the  unveiling of the Sunday Model-C prototype.   Jim Cielincki seems to want to pull the BMX cruiser into the modern age…and it looks like he is on the way to doing it…with better frame geometry and the cool colorways Sunday is famous for. If the pictures he’s been posting lately are any indication I think we are in for a treat when these go in to production….I mean just check out the toothhanger above…this isn’t just a converted race cruiser…this thing is ready for some serious street riding.

Jim is solicting feedback on the design of the bike…and judging from the flurry of comments on the Sunday blog — people are not shy about voicing their opinions. Thankfully the tall folks (which full-disclosure — I’m over 6 foot) are weighing in and voting for longish TT lengths…I think people are pretty stoked to finally have the chance to get a cruiser that fits them properly….without having to go the custom built route …and have it stand up to modern riding.
